While I like to wear an actual tin foil hat at all times… InsideCRM has a great post with 100 virtual tinfoil hat tips for webmasters that are extremely paranoid of Google penalties. The Tinfoil Hat Toolbox tells you how to cover your tracks as your try to make a few dollars on the web.
They offer some great Google safety tips, but the tip that stands out to me is #39:
Buy links under the radar. Put your links in places where they’ll blend in so that even someone looking for a paid link wouldn’t find it.
This is exactly the service that LinkXL provides webmasters. We make it easy for SEOs and webmasters to get natural links in existing content.
It took about a year and a few extra servers but we now offer links in existing content on over one million different pages. It seems we are adding 5 – 10 new publisher sites everyday now due to a great word of mouth campaign. Our publishers have anywhere from one page of content to 50,000 pages of available content and rank from PR8 to PR0. At the rate we are going, 2 million publisher pages will be reached soon.
Remember, LinkXL is all about text link relevance. We believe it is better to spend $100 a month on 30-40 relevant PR0 contextual links than $100 on 1 non-relevant high PR link. If you are an advertiser, it is a very good thing if you can get past your PR obsession and buy low cost relevant links - both your pocket book and site will benefit greatly.
Here is the link to the post about LinkXL on Linux.com - great to have some real world open source people testing out our stuff. It must mean something if they like it…..
You can read the story here too copied from the Linux.com website…..

I recently received an email from a new user that illustrates the problem with link buying and why it doesn’t work for most people.
His question went something like this: “I searched for my anchor text ****** and I did not find any PR5+ links”
Here is a summary of my response and the LinkXL position on buying links because of PR rather than relevance: Read the rest of this entry »

Interesting that newspaper advertising revenue is being threatened by online advertising. So what is the answer? If you cant beat them- join them! Supplement your ad revenue by selling text link ads- any word on a major newspaper site is up for the taking. Relevant contextual links are being purchased by major retailers with the use of technology from Vibrant Media, LinkXL and other text link publishing networks by major newspapers across the USA - according to a recent Business Week article.
Everyone has recently gone mad over the latest Google PageRank update. However I believe that many of our “not so hard-core seo” users are fearing for the wrong reasons. We recieve seo and text link questions every day and I find myself repeating the same thing: “No visitor is really going to care about your PageRank.”

In the war between Google and the paid links industry, it seems that Google’s latest attack could be a cause for concern.
In the past, Google only threatened to penalize websites for selling links. However, as of recent, it seems that Google has found a way around removing sites from the search engines for selling links. The search engine instead has implemented a “decrease page rank” punishment. Read the rest of this entry »
