While I like to wear an actual tin foil hat at all times… InsideCRM has a great post with 100 virtual tinfoil hat tips for webmasters that are extremely paranoid of Google penalties. The Tinfoil Hat Toolbox tells you how to cover your tracks as your try to make a few dollars on the web.
They offer some great Google safety tips, but the tip that stands out to me is #39:
Buy links under the radar. Put your links in places where they’ll blend in so that even someone looking for a paid link wouldn’t find it.

Everyone has recently gone mad over the latest Google PageRank update. However I believe that many of our “not so hard-core seo” users are fearing for the wrong reasons. So you want your page to rank high in the search engines- don’t we all? Well like many things in life, getting what you want takes some work. In the SEO business, link building tends to be the most meticulous part of the process. But suck it up; we all have to do it.
“Are Paid Links Evil?” That was the controversial question debated at a propaganda-filled panel discussion at this year’s SES San Jose Conference. Page Rank or Google PR is calculated by the amount, relevancy and quality of other website linking back to your website. There are many types of back linking techniques- some that help more than others. One main thing to keep in mind is to make sure you’re having your back links placed in content of a relevant web page.
In real estate investors and home buyers alike are commonly told that the most important consideration when purchasing a property is: “Location, Location, and Location”. Well for webmasters the most important consideration is: “Content, Content, and Content”! On the web the overall driver for a website is the content that the site contains. Content is to a website what inventory is to a retail store. Without content, or inventory there is no traffic and no sales. There has been a bit that has been argued in regards to penalties for duplicate content. Who is right, who is wrong, what the story really is. Search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN are known to penalize duplicate content. So what exactly is duplicate content?
