Text link advertising has become a serious threat to Google’s business model. Not only do paid links cut into Google’s advertising revenue, they can mess with their ranking algorithm. When search engines count unrelated links in the footer or sidebars of websites, the websites buying these links get an undeserved boost in the search engine rankings.
