Getting Results with Linking Strategies
Inbound links are other web pages that contain a link to your website. Website popularity is used to indicate how many other pages link to your webpage. Proper website strategies can help you get more inbound in-content links from relevant sites which in turn will greatly improve your search engine ranking.
It’s important to maintain a link popularity strategy as part of your seo efforts. There are a few linking techniques used to gain natural organic inbound links incontent:
Reciprocal Linking
While I am not a fan of this method it still does exist and when done correctly can help your rankings. This involves exchanging links to another website that places a link to your webpage on their site. Couple of things to keep in mind:
- Keep the links to pages with relevant content. If you sell blue widgets then a link from an alpaca farmer will not be relevant.
- Look for pages with higher page rank. If they have fewer links outbound the better.
- Include your main / best keywords in the anchor text of the inbound link(s).
- If you are writing a description with your link make it readable by humans and not packed with keywords. It needs to be related to your pages topic.
- Write an article and submit them to article sites. Some allow resource boxes where you can place a link back to your site and give a specific description (relevant content, contextual link). If someone out there decides to use your article on their site or in a newsletter then you would have a new relevant link back to your site.
- Write product reviews and testimonials for other websites. If it is posted you’ll gain a inbound links and traffic from that site.
- Add great useful content to your website. This will compel others to link to you naturally. This will add more content to your website that is food for search engines and increase your keyword relevancy.
- Join forums. Ask questions and answer others. Some forums will allow you to place footer links in your posts or place a link in your actual post. Be careful and don’t be a spammer - when in doubt, leave the link out!
