Newspapers use Text Link Ads to compensate revenue streams
Interesting that newspaper advertising revenue is being threatened by online advertising. So what is the answer? If you cant beat them- join them! Supplement your ad revenue by selling text link ads- any word on a major newspaper site is up for the taking. Relevant contextual links are being purchased by major retailers with the use of technology from Vibrant Media, LinkXL and other text link publishing networks by major newspapers across the USA - according to a recent Business Week article.
So now if major newspapers are going to use contextual advertising to contribute to overall profit margins who will be next? News outlets are already following this trend with more and more soon to follow.
Contextual advertising and text link ads are a great way to target specific keywords in a content that takes the reader (once clicked) over to the paid advertisers website that highlights their product or service. It’s relevant and targeted, more likley to convert from the end-user and cost effective. There is no auction pay per click model (that I am aware of ) so your CPA (cost per acquisition) can be controlled and with analytics be refined for better goal conversion.
One thing to point out: text links bought on Vibrant Media, AdBrite and other networks of this type do not sell value-passing link popularity. They have a product similar to that of Pay Per Click and CPM image advertising. Once the budget is gone, so is your traffic. With traditional Text Link Advertising and new pioneers like LinkXL.com (shameless plug…I know..) offer an advertising option that is similar but also more beneficial. Both targeted traffic and link popularity (the amount of links from external website that point back to your website without you exchanging links with those sites) are passed on to the advertiser to help with their rankings over time in natural search engine results. Once natural rankings are achieved (which many people are very clueless about) that traffic can cost very little to maintain.
